Professor Rein Houben is an established infectious disease epidemiologist and mathematical modeller, working mainly in TB, where he combines empirical data collection, historical reviews and mathematical modelling tools to contribute to TB care and prevention. In recent years, he co-led the re-evaluation of TB natural history (e.g. recognition of subclinical/asymptomatic TB) and has contributed to research on structural determinants of TB, including poverty and nutrition. Within a wide range of research activities, his current focus is on systematic screening of populations, stratified TB treatment and post-TB. He co-leads the LSHTM TB modelling group and chairs the LSHTM TB Centre Steering Committee.
