Sang Nae Cho
Sang-Nae (Ray) Cho, D.V.M., Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus at Yonsei University of College of Medicine, Seoul and the director of International TB Research Center (ITRC), South Korea. After earning his Ph.D. in microbiology at Colorado State University (CSU) in 1982, Dr. Cho worked at the Mycobacteria Research Laboratory at CSU until joining the Department of Microbiology at Yonsei University in 1987 and retired in 2017. In early days, his research focused on immunological and molecular diagnostics in leprosy and tuberculosis. In addition, Dr. Cho initiated a research collaboration with scientists at NIAID, NIH on various projects including the linezolid trial on XDR-TB patients and the GeneXpert for XDR-TB. In order to facilitate these collaborative research projects above, ITRC was established in 2009 and now participates in various consortium projects on shortening regimens for MDR-TB with financial support from Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and has also been a partner organization to TB Alliance for the LIFT-TB project, the operational research on the BPaL regimen. He has authored over 250 publications on leprosy and tuberculosis.
